Ridge Augmentation

When teeth are missing for a long time in an area, the bone in the area keeps resorbing. Bone loss can also occur due to accidents, when teeth fall off with bone, or during ectraction of teeth. When dental implants or other artificial teeth are to be placed in such an area, there is not enough bone height or width to place teeth. Ridge augmentation is a surgery by which natural and artificial bone is placed in such areas to increase height, width or both

The areas from which bone is taken are generally inside the mouth, the upper or lower jaw, but sometimes the hip bone or skull bone has to be used if more amount is required. Artificial bone substitutes can be used or mixed with natural bone. This surgery can be done under local or general anesthesia, depending on time duration.
